| "It was magic. Everybody felt it- regardless of how many times they had already been down south. To me that will always be one of the nicest aspects of traveling to Antarctica- the way the shared wonder of being together in one of the world's strangest environments draws people together. Here we had a mix of chefs, carpenters, geologists, helicopter pilots, merchant seamen, biologists, diesel mechanics, meteorologists, doctors, and plumbers-people who might not rub elbows much, if at all, in the real world but effortlessly coalesce down here in The Ice to become Antarcticans."
